Silence is Violence
"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor." -Desmond Tutu
I sit here uncomfortable and embarrassed thinking about all the time I have sat silently while forms of injustice go on in the world. Silence is a form of violence. Every time I saw something unjust and chose to let someone else solve the problem, I gave my consent to let it continue. I can't keep going on like this.
I have learned that no one can solve these problems alone, we must ALL act, that means EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US.
There is evil in the world yes, but mostly there is a lack of understanding, and we can help with that.
Here's what you can do today.
Please call these offices and express your disappointment for their vote in favor of HR3048.
"The following Democrats voted for a bill that would essentially make it impossible for Syrian refugees to obtain asylum in the US."
Today I attended a candlelight Vigil to honor the lives of those who passed away in the recent attacks, to show support to muslim american communities and others who are being attacked because they fit the stereotype, and to advocate for allowing Syrian refugees asylum in the US.
The event was held by the Japanese American Community, who were also one of the first to speak out in LA against hatred and violence towards muslims after 911. True Leaders.
I realized that for every person who doesn't understand muslims and islam, there are 5 or more probably who do and show support for us!
But the facts are that hate crime is still increasing, so please speak out against it in anyway you can. Educate your neighbors!
Thank you for all those who came out today!
If you couldn't make it, there is another event on DEC 12th that you can go to!
Spread peace please,
