Mawlid is a three day celebration of the prophet Muhammad's (Peace be upon him) birthday. In Ethiopia people spend the days singing prayers, dancing, shopping and eating together. Although I am a Muslim, this a holiday I am completely unfamiliar with. I walked around with my camera feeling like a stranger, trying to understand my own religion. I used to think Muslims all over the world were the same because the Qur'an and teachings of the prophet are so clear, but now I see how we all interpret them differently, and we show our love for them differently. I don't know what's right or wrong, I just know what's in the heart matters much more. Here are some pictures from the event.
